Magical stories for kids, adults, and curious dreamers.
Kari Luna is the author of The Theory of Everything (Penguin Random House), an Oregon Book Award for Young Adult Literature winner, Indies Next New Voices pick, and one of Bank Street College’s Best Books. It was featured in Rookie Mag, Hello Giggles, Bitch Magazine, MTV.com, and more.
Sophie Sophia is obsessed with music from the late eighties. She also has an eccentric physicist father who sometimes vanishes for days and sees things other people don’t see. But when he disappears for good and Sophie’s mom moves them from Brooklyn, New York, to Havencrest, Illinois, for a fresh start, things take a turn for the weird. Sophie starts seeing things, like marching band pandas, just like her dad.
Guided by Walt, a giant panda, and her new (human) friend named Finny, Sophie is determined to find her father and figure out her visions, once and for all. So she travels back to where it began – New York City and NYU’s Physics department. As she discovers more about her dad’s research on M-theory and her father himself, Sophie opens her eyes to the world’s infinite possibilities – and her heart to love.
Kari also did her own book promotion. From a whimsical book trailer that premiered on MTV.com to 80s-inspired illustrated posters and buttons designed by Will Bryant, Kari acted as Creative Director and writer to create a campaign that generated a lot of buzz.
Kari is currently working on a magical middle-grade series about animals and the environment, an adult rom-com mystery, and publishes bi-monthly essays on her Substack. Several other books are in various stages of development. You can see more of her work at Entropy, The Weeklings, About Place Journal, and online @wordette. And her former bands are all famous in Europe, of course. Learn more at KariLuna.com, a brand she also developed.
Inspired by her book launch, Kari also founded Launch with Love, a boutique branding agency for authors and publishers. It’s currently on hiatus except for consultancy with Kari.
